Shocking video has captured the moment a man allegedly tried to break into a motorcycle shop using a stolen excavator before fleeing over a railway line as he tried to evade police.

Footage showed the 41-year-old man allegedly using the front loader to smash the shop's window before pulling out two motorcycles on a hook about 4am on Friday in West Ipswich in Queensland's south-east.

The man allegedly dropped the bikes when police arrived and fled down nearby suburban streets on the excavator before crossing a railway line.

A 41-year-old man is seen on camera allegedly smashing through the front window of the motorcycle store before attaching two bikes to the front beam of the front end loader

The man allegedly damaged fences and property as he drove around erratically.

The rail network was shut down during the chase but police said a stationary train at Ipswich Railway Station suffered minor damage.

Queensland Police said the excavator then drove through more suburban streets and bushland before the driver stopped near Dinmore Railway Station and fled on foot.

The man was allegedly tracked by a police dog squad and found in long grass in a creek just before 5am.

He allegedly used the beam of the vehicle to smash through the front windows of the Brisbane Road store

The Dinmore man was arrested and denied bail.

He was due to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates court on Friday charged with enter premises and commit an indictable offence by breaking.

The man is also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, trespassing on a railway, two counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and wilful damage and one count of obstructing police and evading police.

The vehicle allegedly crashed through a gate and entered a Queensland Rail corridor
